[Freedombox-discuss] A20-OLinuXino-Lime2_Rev_H and higher most likely not able to run freedombox properly

Hello all!

I recently bought an A20-OLinuXino Lime 2 (Rev. K), and this board is
not able to operate the onboard Gbit-Ethernet using current debian
images (and therefore, the freedombox images can't use this ethernet
either, i tested with testing and unstable dailys from 23.10.2018).

The reason is a change in the ethernet phy.

I already reported a bug with the debian installer package.
You can find additional information there:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=911560

best regards,

Dieter

Not sure what kind of answer you're expecting from the freedombox
community about this, but I'd suggest you contact Olimex about it
(and maybe the sunxi-linux community). It's probaly easy to fix (maybe
even just be tweaking the DTS file).

Hello Stefan,

nothing special, i just wanted to point that out, as there might be
problems or bug reports regarding these issues.

And, Olimex described their path here:
https://github.com/OLIMEX/OLINUXINO/blob/master/SOFTWARE/A20/A20-build-3.4.103-release-8/BUILD_DESCRIPTION_A20_Olimex_kernel_3.4.103%2B_Jessie_rel_8.txt

Best regards,
Dieter

Hello,

I recently bought a A20-OLinuXino Lime 2 (Rev. K with 16GiB eMMC), and
freedombox does not work for me either: using a recent prebuilt testing
image, the lime2 never gets an IPv4 DHCP lease.

Here are the logs (I connected through UART) from the moment I plug the
ethernet cable: http://paste.debian.net/1049955/

Is this the same issue? In this case, I'll update the hardware page to add
a warning (I bought the lime2 becouse I thought it was the "trouble-free"
board of choice).

Thnak you

Thanks for sharing your issue, Sébastien.

Because the problems with the LIME2 have been reported by multiple
people at this point, I have created an issue for your case in the
FreedomBox GitLab instance. In case you didn't know, we use GitLab to
keep track of issues that need attention from our team.

You can find the issue here:
https://salsa.debian.org/freedombox-team/freedom-maker/issues/148

Hopefully, our team can have a discussion about the issue on that page.
I have tagged some of our developers who might be able to help.

Best,

Danny

I am confused.

which issues belong in Debian bugtracker, and which belong in Salsa
issue tracker?

Thank you for the warning. I was considering buying one to get a
FreedomBox without any hazzle.

Perhaps you could update <URL: https://wiki.debian.org/FreedomBox/Hardware >
with relevant links? It would have helped me when I considered what to
buy. :)

Perhaps this is the same issue I had with my Olimex A20-OLinuXino-MICRO
(revision J) discussed on the board in July. Same symptoms anyway.

I solved it by using the
"freedombox-testing-free_latest_a20-olinuxino-micro-armhf.img" image I
downloaded in June 2018 (sorry, I dont have a specific date). With that
earlier image my board connected without issues to my router. With later
images, the board did not connect to the router. Also, my board is still
working properly even with later updates.

I hope this helps in troubleshooting. Or perhaps you can still find the
older testing images for your board and use those.

Kind regards,

Bart
